A five-star, private safari lodge, and villa located in the 35,000-hectare Welgevonden Game Reserve, Mhondoro Lodge is as sophisticated as it is family-friendly. Extensively rebuilt following a fire in 2015, the interiors are a soothing fusion of contemporary simplicity and African chic; five free-standing suites and one three-bedroom villa, each with a private viewing deck, are complemented by heated pools, an intimate spa, a wilderness-view gym, and a constellation-gazing platform.
The star of the show, however, is the one-of-a-kind hide. Sited mere feet from the watering hole and accessed by an underground passage, it allows guests to approach unobserved for thrilling eye-to-eye wildlife encounters. The varied habitats within the reserve harbour an intoxicating variety of wildlife, including a high concentration of the critically endangered white rhino. Rangers take guests on morning and afternoon game drives, and strict limits on vehicle numbers in the reserve ensure every outing is outstandingly private.
