In the heart of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru is a shimmering soda lake that is a feeding ground for hundreds of bird species and whose wooded shores are home to four of Africa’s Big Five.
Perched on a rock face 100 metres above the lake’s blue waters is The Cliff, an extraordinary new resort that is part safari lodge and part sleek boutique hotel. Wide fronted and canvas roofed, guest rooms feature wraparound plate glass windows for 180-degree views, ultra-contemporary, European-style interiors, and freestanding oval bathtubs.
Outside, it’s pure Africa. Game drives in open-sided vehicles reveal a medley of majestic creatures. Zebra, giraffe, leopard and lion all roam the region and it is one of the few places where one can observe both black and white rhino – a particularly memorable spectacle when viewed against the backdrop of a thousands-strong flock of pink flamingos.
